WHAT IS KOMBUCHA

Kombucha is a naturally effervescent fermented tea beverage made with a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY). Known as the “Immortal Health Elixir” by the Chinese and originating in the Far East around 2,000 years ago, kombucha provides tremendous health benefits extending to your heart, your brain and especially your gut. Throughout history, kombucha has been passed around the globe from culture to culture providing healing and refreshment wherever it goes.

Kombucha is A LIVING DRINK filled with probiotics. A variety of tiny microbes line your digestive tract and work in harmony with your bodily systems ~ digestive, immune and energy, to nourish your cells and absorb nutrients as well as fight infection and illness.

HOW MUCH DO WE NEED?

Depends on the intention.... if we are looking to quench our thirst with a cold, refreshing beverage, by all means drink up. The body will rid itself of any extra healthy bacteria we don't need, very much like Vitamin C. So not to worry if the whole bottle goes down way to smoothly ~ enjoy! It's a better for you alternative to sodas, juices and other sugary drinks.

However, if the intention is to optimize gut health, support your digestion, liver function, joint health, immune system and overall wellness our bodies don't need that much at all. 1 to 2 ounces in the morning and 1 to 2 ounces in the evening, every day, is really all the body needs. It's that potent with good, healthy bacteria. The idea here is consistency. Small amounts on a consistent basis over time, will optimize the body's cellular structure, supporting health and wellness from the inside out.

As a digestive aid, having a small sip (again 1-2 ounces) about 20-30 minutes before eating will flood the digestive system with healthy bacteria and prepare the body for the incoming nutrition. Like setting the table for the gut! This not only helps break down our food faster and support metabolic function, but it also helps with nutrient uptake ensuring we are getting the most nutrition available from the foods we eat. And if we didn't plan ahead and succumb to overindulgence (it happens to all of us once in awhile!), enjoying a glass of kombucha can also help after the fact too.

Of course these are just a few suggestions and the thing to remember is that there are no rules here! Let the intuition be the guide and trust the body - it knows what it needs!
